Last week, we shared how ArtServe's leadership has made the strongest case yet for the importance of the arts, culture and arts education for the future of Michigan. Thanks to those of you who already contributed! Today we share the powerful results that our work together with you has done to advance the arts, culture and creative industries across Michigan and ask you to lend your support.
- Arts & Cultural Funding: In 2012, ArtServe's efforts led to increased funding for the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs from $2.56 million to $6.15 million for FY 2013. This result marked the first increase in funding for arts and culture in Michigan in four years.
- Kresge Arts in Detroit: Since 2009, 72 artists have been awarded with Kresge Artist Fellowships that provide significant financial support for artists annually, each consisting of a $25,000 award and customized professional practice opportunities. ArtServe Michigan leads the year-round, customized professional practice opportunities for the Kresge Artist Fellows. Fundamentally, the program stresses the need for the artists to be strategic, realistic and prepared to take charge of their careers to realize their ambitions.
- Creative Many Professional Practice Seminars: Since fall 2010, over 425 artists have participated in ArtServe led seminars, supported by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, that empower individual artists and creative practitioners with the resources and skills to build sustainable professional creative practices. Seminars have reached both emerging and mid-career artists in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, Grand Rapids, Manistee and Marquette with plans to add sessions in Kalamazoo and Traverse City and a statewide Creative Many Summit in spring 2013.
- Creative Impact Michigan: Since May 2011, ArtServe has shared powerful stories of how the arts, culture and creativity are transforming people and places across Michigan through this e-magazine. Featuring 108 stories from 62 communities since launch, and a statewide events calendar, this new publication reaches more than 50,000 readers monthly and builds new audiences for artists and arts and cultural organizations in Michigan.
