Legal protections for Artists and Creative Entrepreneurs - Join Us! Wednesday, November 14th 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the Grand Rapids Art Museum 101 N. Monroe, Grand Rapids Free! http://bit.ly/CreativeMany_Legal.
Developed by ArtServe Michigan, this 2 hour talk and panel discussion is designed to empower creative practitioners of all disciplines to take the next step in building sustainable professional creative practices through engaging with and understanding key aspects of intellectual property (licensing, contracts, branding and negotiation).
Protecting your Practice will be a lively mix of presentations, provocations, discussion and opportunity to connect. This event will feature specialists from the legal field to share their knowledge and expertise.
This talk and panel discussion will offer the opportunity for serious working artists and creative practitioners to gather information on expanding their professional practice. Learn the legal options for protecting your creative works, understand what a copyright is and how to obtain one, and understand legal ways to collaborate with others and let others use your work. This is also your chance to hear about a new exciting initiative being launched by ArtServe Michigan - Lawyers for the Creative Economy (LCE). LCE will provide affordable legal resources and services to artists, creative practitioners, creative sector businesses and arts and cultural non-profit organizations.
About Creative Many Seminars: Artists and creative practitioners are an invaluable resource to Michigan, contributing value socially, culturally, aesthetically and economically. Creative Many Seminars empower artists to take the next step in building sustainable professional creative practices. Seminars cover communications, resources, protections and strategic planning for creative practitioners, whether emerging or established across Michigan's vibrant creative industries.
Funding for the Creative Many Professional Practice Seminars is provided by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation through their Marketplace Empowerment for Artists Program. Their support allows ArtServe Michigan and its partners to offer these informative sessions across the state.
Lawyers for the Creative Economy (LCE) is a new, statewide initiative led by ArtServe Michigan to identify and engage attorneys who are willing to provide free or low-fee intellectual property advice and related support to artists, creative practitioners, businesses and non-profit organizations. LCE not only provides an opportunity for you to fulfill your pro bono responsibilities as a lawyer, but also will give you a stake in Michigan’s vibrant arts and creative industries.
LCE was developed by ArtServe Michigan with support from the Arts, Communications, Entertainment and Sports (ACES) section of the State Bar of Michigan, General Motors, major Michigan law firms and the National Endowment for the Arts, to name a few.
