Why Join ArtServe?
Organizational Membership with ArtServe Michigan ensures that our mission to cultivate the creative potential of Michigan's arts and cultural sector to enhance the health and well-being of Michigan, its people and communities not only will continue, but will be strengthened by your support. Our members help us intensify our advocacy efforts for the arts, culture and arts education and support for the transformative power of the creative industries. Your membership presents the opportunity for your voice to be included in the work for sustainable gains in the arts and culture in Michigan.
As an organizational member you can feel confident your membership dollars are helping support every initiative, and you are the first to hear about important program announcements and legislative alerts, including coordinated candidate surveys, indicating candidate positions on arts issues to help you make informed decisions for primary and general elections. When grassroots communications are needed to protect the sector, ArtServe Michigan works with members to mobilize activism.
In 2010, our advocacy alerts lead to action restoring and securing $2.56 million in the state budget, when the sector faced the possibility of no dedicated state support that year. As a result, the MCACA was able to fund programs and operations for 358 organizations statewide. The same year, ArtServe helped local groups organize in support of arts education in 20 local school districts and helped restore program funding for 95 percent of them.
All members are encouraged to participate in the Michigan Cultural Data Project (CDP), a powerful online management database and support network helping arts and cultural organizations improve their financial management and services, while building a case with their important statistical data demonstrating the impact of the arts to our state. Launched in May 2010, Michigan was the eighth state to join Cultural Data Project, developed by Pew Charitable Trusts, which includes more than 12,000 organizations and 200 funding programs. Your organization's participation in the Michigan Cultural Data Project will help us build an even stronger case for the importance of the arts locally, regionally and statewide.
Membership levels are determined by organizational budget size. Please take advantage of our 25 percent joint membership discount, which is extended to organizations that join both ArtServe Michigan and the Michigan Nonprofit Association. ArtServe Michigan is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
